Should I have to pay for benefits during worker's comp leave?

Due to the negligence of another employee, I was injured on the job in May of last year. I have had to undergo surgery and will have to do months of occupational therapy before I can return to work. My question is, should I be made to pay for my regular benefits while I am out of work? I was told this morning that my benefits from my employer had been frozen and I will have to pay to keep them going. I only receive 60% of my base pay from worker's comp and that barely covers the bills I normally have. Do I need to contact an attorney?
